REGARDLESS OF PARTY...AND HE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO!!!

IF YOU KNEW...Illinois Congressman John E. Grotberg (pictured left) was incapacitated in January, 1986 from experimental cancer treatment and was unable to function. And that the plan would be to keep him alive through the March primary so a small handful of men could select the next nominee instead of tens of thousands of rank and file voters...WHAT WOULD YOU DO???


26 year old WLBK-AM Program Director Mark J. Powell learned of the plan from State Rep. John Countryman. The powerful legislator wanted Powell to run for DeKalb County Clerk against Democratic incumbent Terry Desmond if Powell would keep this information secret.


Powell ultimately ran as a congressional write-in candidate against the incapacitated congressman broadcasting radio advertising throughout the District as a PROTEST against not allowing the rank and file voters to choose the congressional nominee.


After nominating the incapacitated Grotberg in March, the congressman's office issued a statement that because of his "health issues", Grotberg would not be the nominee in November. 


Did Powell tell the TRUTH? Yes, Indeed. 


As Powell warned, at the convention the 7 guys "cheated" the other potential candidates and nominated their buddy State Rep. Denny Hastert, yep, the future Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.  


The GOP then needed to keep Grotberg "alive" through November. 


The 1986 Democratic nominee Mary Lou Kearns, whom Powell campaigned for came very close to winning the seat but lost to Hastert. Hastert won on November 4th and Grotberg "died" on November 15, 1986. 


In 2016, Hastert pleaded guilty to a felony and went to Federal Prison in Minnesota.

Pastor Mark has been active in politics since college. In the 1979 picture above, Powell is with his St. Ambrose College Kennedy campaign Co-Chair Dave Gulvas (L) and future U. S. Congressman Joe Kennedy II (D-MA) (Center) getting ready for the 1980 Iowa Caucuses.


Powell is experienced with how government works: He was elected to a City Council in 1987, a County Planning Commission Vice Chair in 1992, Legislative Assistant with the Kansas House of Representatives 1994, Chief of Staff Associate House Speaker, Michigan House of Representatives in 2000.  Powell was a candidate for the 2010 Democratic nomination for Congress. During that campaign, Pastor Powell warned against the Communist Chinese Politburo and their crackdown on human rights and long term plan for the economic takeover of the United States.
